IPTV Not Working? Buffering, Login and Playlist Fixes
Most IPTV problems come from the source or the network, not the player. The fastest way to find out is to test the same thing in a second place: the same link in a web browser, the same channel on another device, the same device on another network.
Source, network or player: how to tell
| Test | If it also fails | If it works |
|---|---|---|
| Open the playlist link in a web browser | The link or the account is the problem | The account is active; look at the network or player |
| Play the same channel on another device | The channel or the source is the problem | The first device or its connection is the problem |
| Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the other way | The source server is the problem | Your home network is the problem |
| Play a different channel | The account or the connection is the problem | That one channel is offline |
Login rejected or account expired
In the Opus iPhone, iPad and Android app these errors come from the source's server, passed on word for word:
- "Your credentials is wrong! Please contact with your provider."
- The server did not accept the username or password. Copy them again from your source's message; they are case-sensitive.
- "Your service is expired. Please contact with your provider."
- The account's end date has passed. Only the source can renew it.
For an Xtream Codes login, the server field takes the address and port only, such as http://host.example:8080, without /get.php or anything after it. If you only have an M3U link, the Xtream to M3U converter reads the three fields out of it.
The playlist will not load
Open the link in a browser. A downloaded file means the link works; a web page, an error code or a timeout means it does not. The M3U playlist guide explains what each result means. Very large playlists load slowly on TV boxes with little memory; a smaller playlist from your source is the only real fix.
Buffering and freezing
- Check the speed where the TV isRun a speed test on the TV device or a phone next to it. HD needs roughly 5–10 Mbps per stream, 4K 20–25 Mbps.
- Move the TV device off Wi-FiUse Ethernet if the device has a port. A Fire TV Stick behind the television often has a weak signal; the HDMI extender that came with it moves it into the open.
- Stop other streamsEvery device watching at the same time takes its own share of the connection, and many sources count each one against your device limit.
- Compare at another time of dayIf it only buffers in the evening or during big matches, the source's server is overloaded. A player setting cannot fix that.
One channel does not play
When the rest of the playlist works, the channel itself is offline, moved or blocked at the source. In Opus the message is "There is a problem with the streaming of this channel". Sound without a picture usually means the stream uses a codec the device cannot decode; report the channel to your source.
The TV guide is empty
The guide comes from the source. Opus shows it for Xtream Codes logins when the server publishes one; M3U playlists play without a guide. The EPG and XMLTV guide covers missing guides and wrong times.
Frequently asked questions
Why does IPTV buffer when Netflix does not?
Streaming services lower the picture quality when the connection slows down. Many live IPTV streams come at one fixed quality, so a slow connection shows up as buffering instead.
Will a VPN fix buffering?
Only when your internet provider slows down this kind of traffic. Otherwise a VPN adds a step and usually makes it slightly worse.
It works on my phone but not on the TV. Why?
Usually the TV device has the weaker connection, or the source allows only one device at a time and the phone is still playing.
Who do I contact?
Your source for expired accounts, missing channels and buffering on every device; Opus support at info@opusiptv.com when the same link works in other players but not in Opus.
